Usage Instructions and Disclaimer

This tool is designed to help students from the CompTIA and edX cybersecurity bootcamp study more effectively by randomly selecting and displaying slides from the course material. Please read the following instructions and disclaimer carefully to ensure proper use:

How to Use the Tool:

  1. Set the Minimum and Maximum Slide Numbers:

Enter the range of slides you want to study by specifying the minimum and maximum slide numbers.

  2. Exclude Specific Slides:

Enter the slide numbers you want to exclude, separated by commas. This is useful for skipping slides with chapter numbers, titles, or any slides you do not wish to study.

  3. Save Your Settings:

Click the "Save Settings" button to store your preferences. This will save the range and excluded slides so you can reuse them without re-entering the information each time. The excluded values are saved, sorted, and any duplicates are removed to ensure a clean list of exclusions. Note that these changes will only take effect after you save your settings and reload the page.

  4. Generate a Random Slide:

Click the "Fetch Slide" button to randomly select a slide from the specified range, excluding the slides you have chosen to skip. The selected slide number will be displayed along with the corresponding slide image.

Example:

If a student wants to focus on Linux, they can study weeks 3-6 by selecting the minimum slide to be 25 (where week 3 starts) and maximum slide to be 42 (where week 6 ends). They would then exclude the recommended slides as well as the ones they already feel confident with the definitions for.
